Sunshine Educare – “Mtha Welanga”
Sunshine Educare, known as “Mtha Welanga” in Xhosa, symbolizes light in darkness. From a humble shack, we’ve grown into a haven for 70 children, thanks to the support of the Save Foundation. With two beautiful classrooms erected by Save and Kilroy, along with additional buildings, we now provide proper facilities for hygiene and education.
A Community Center for Hope and Possibilities
More than just a school, we are a community center that offers hope and possibilities. Despite challenges such as malnourishment and high dropout rates, we are determined to uplift education levels. Our Ubuntu Shop fosters community participation by exchanging donations for assistance in our initiatives.
At Sunshine School, we believe that education is the key to a brighter future. We strive to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Through our dedicated teachers and staff, we aim to empower our students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed in life.
Our curriculum is designed to be holistic, focusing not only on academic subjects but also on the development of essential life skills. We believe in fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities in our students. Through a combination of classroom learning, extracurricular activities, and community engagement, we aim to provide a well-rounded education that prepares our students for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
At Sunshine School, we also understand the importance of parental involvement in a child’s education. We actively encourage parents and guardians to participate in their child’s learning journey through regular communication, parent-teacher meetings, and workshops. We believe that by working together as a team, we can create a supportive and enriching educational experience for our students.
We are grateful for the support we have received from the Save Foundation, Kilroy, and the wider community. Their generosity has enabled us to improve our facilities, expand our programs, and make a positive impact on the lives of the children in our care. However, there is still much work to be done.
